CartoVox
Turning a written world brief into a reproducible planet, an illustrated atlas, and a connected workspace for the stories that happen there.
The problem
Worldbuilding tools rarely share one world.
Authors and game masters often move between map drawing, geography notes, timelines, and writing tools. That makes it hard to keep the map and the story consistent as a world evolves.
My contribution
I designed and built the product independently.
CartoVox starts with a world brief, searches reproducible seeds against measurable requirements, and simulates a spherical world through tectonics, climate, rivers, biomes, settlements, and routes. The same saved world then feeds exploration, atlas exports, lore, chronology, and manuscript tools.
- Made the simulation local-first: no account or cloud connection is required to build a world.
- Connected multiple creation paths—brief generation, map import, coastline drawing, and geological direction—to one world record.
- Built visual outputs including 49 measured map views and eight illustrated atlas sheets.
Design decision & result
Reproducibility before decoration.
A seed and shared world record make the maps, settlements, and writing surfaces different views of the same simulation rather than disconnected artifacts. The beta now has more than 300 users, and its Discord community has more than 300 members. The product remains in active development.
